The purpose of Delta Gamma Phi is to promote social awareness within the community, and to form a bond between education and sisterhood. A democratic theory has been established to inspire, accompany, and illuminate us to our own individuality, and to establish a community which will eternally preserve and encourage these and all future goals.
Sisterhood. Education. Friendship. Love. Faith.

Greek Bid Celebration By Invitation Only
During the spring of 1990, five friends, Jiuliellen McConnell, Julie Jennings, Elisa Moles, Pamela Czajka and Lorena Nissly, discussed the initial steps to bring a new sorority to the campus of Western Connecticut State University. Christopher Norris, the President and Founding Father of Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity, helped us with our direction and assisted us in our name and purpose.
The first step was at the Student Affairs Office; where we met with Dean Dozier, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs. He advised us to petition to organize which meant writing a constitution, approval by the Greek Council, approval of our constitution by the Rules Committee, approval by the Student Government Association (SGA) and lastly, find someone to be oour advisor.
Writing the constitution was the most difficult of all the tasks. In our constitution wer presented the foundation of our sorority which is a bond between women on campus and sisters that will remain incessant "together forever" with one another. Before we knew it this step was successfully completed on April 25, 1990.
The approval of the Greek Council was our next step. We went to a meeting and expressed our interest to organize. Our constitution was reviewed by the council. We were asked, "What was our purpose to organize a new sorority?" We answered, "To promote a bond between women, sisterhood and education." Through a unanimous vote our organization was accepted by Greek Council on April 30, 1990.
A few days later our constitution was passed by the Rules Committee, an advisory committee that looks over organizations' constitutions, with flying colors on May 2, 1990.
Next it was on to the Student Government Association where our constitution was reviewed and approved. So, as of May 7, 1990, Delta Gamma Phi Sorority became an established and recognized organization at Western Connecticut State University.
Our last step was to find an advisor. We needed a full-time faculty member who was either a teacher or administrator at the University. Dean Muska, the advisor of Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity, helped us by asking a colleague, Lorraine Capobianco, who accepted this position. She worked both in Old Main and as a math teacher here at Western Connecticut State University.
Our five sisters quickly grew to thirteen. They were: Melissa Gwiazdowski, Jennifer Chila, Sandra Carbonaro, Josephine Iorio, Natalie Giddings, Rachel Whitehead, cathy Vidal and Jaimey Fauloise. We not only became sisters but friends as well. We had meetings once a week during our first summer to get ready for the upcoming year.
Since the beginning, our sorority concentrates on helping many organizations such as: The Connecticut Society to Prevent Blindness, The Good Neighbor House, The Salvation Army, the March of Dimes, Western Connecticut Child Care Center, and many others. Today, our philanthropy is the Natinal Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD). In attempt to keep our sisterhood bond strong, we indulge in many social activities throughout the year.
